Yesterday I walked all the way from the West Seattle Junction to the Admiral district. That's about 20 blocks each way. Just for the exercise and because I had nothing else to do between 6 and 7. I see that Sin City is starting today at the Admiral Theatre. Jenn hasn't seen it so perhaps we'll go sometimes because I could definitely see it again. That is one DVD I'll have to splurge for and get when it comes out. I hear that the DVD will allow you to see all three of the stories in full as separate movies. Apparently all of the scenes from the source graphic novels were shot and the DVD will be like an unabridged version of the movie.
Today, I may try to walk down to the water. I can't believe I've been here two weeks and I still haven't. The problem is that I'll need to consult a map first because even though from out the window it looks like it's only about four blocks not all roads lead there. Most roads lead to private property and/or a cliff. I'll take a picture from the upstairs window so you can all see the wicked view from where I live.
Another great thing is that everything is in walking distance. I've taken the bus downtown a few times but otherwise it has been "hoofing" it all the way. In fact, I tired to start the car the other day and the battery is completely dead. I haven't driven in two weeks. I don't think that I left the lights on or anything so it's a little mysterious and I hope a boost is all that is needed.
Jenn has been working from 10 - 7 every day this week which leaves me a lot of time to myself. She just got a new job and will be starting it in two weeks and I'm very excited for her. I've been reading
The Best of American Splendor which
Curtis and Adina gave me as a going away present. I'm hooked. I don't think that Harvey Pekar meant for the stories to be collected the way they are because he tends to repeat himself a lot. There is a lot about how he can't afford to retire. Hopefully by the end of the book things will get brighter for him because I'm sure that he's doing alright now due to the movie. The quality of art varies but the book has been very engaging thus far overall.
I rented Pi and Star Wars II: Attack of The Clones. I haven't seen Pi yet and I'm pretty excited about it. Well, as excited as one can be about renting a movie I guess. Star Wars, I rented as a prerequisite to seeing part III.
I read the book and then saw the movie of hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy. It was alright. I kind of wish the book wasn't so fresh in my mind when I watched it. It's the book where the screenplay needed to be padded, not abridged, to make a movie. I found that the movie didn't flow smoothly and a lot of the humour came from the dialogue and was easy to miss because of the accents and because it wasn't quite suited for a movie. Jenn like it very much though. I give it a half assed recommendation if you have nothing else to do.
I haven't seen any live band yet but that may change soon. I missed Rogue Wave, an instore by 50 Foot Wave, and Pinback but on the horizon is Built to Spill on the 17th and Stephen Malkmus on the 18th. Kimya Dawson is playing tonight but I won't be going because I already have plans and I'm sure that she plays here quite often. I definitely will want to catch her next time though.
Tonight we may or may not have a Trailer Park Boys party. What is that you ask? Well I guess we will drink rum and coke and eat chips and chicken fingers while quoting the show. Ha! I'll let you know how it goes. Too bad you can't get Chicken Chips in the US.
p.s. I had grits as a part of my breakfast. I am now unofficially officially an American LOL. There's nothing gritty about grits. It's kind of like cream of wheat but it's made of corn. I'm probably the only person who didn't know this though.
p.p.s. I attended a job fair yesterday but I'll spare you the mundane details.
