Craziness

I had a little trouble with my web host yesterday and that's why the site was down. Apparently I unintentionally blocked there banners. I assume it's because of the narrow frame on top. The hosting company is actually from Russia if you can believe it so they're on the other side of the clock to respond. The banners don't look right right now either so maybe I'll let them know "it's not me, it's you".

Krist Novaselic (Nirvana) is doing a book reading tomorrow. I might check that out. I apologize to my brother and Curtis for missing the Bruce Campbell book signing and movie premiere on Monday *ouch*.

I wonder if anyone anywhere in the city is having a Canada Day party tomorrow. I may have to ask on Craigslist or something like that. I don't really have anything planned for the weekend yet. We may have a Fourth of July BBQ.

I haven't been doing anything interesting lately. I've been debugging phpshop and watching movies. The cat may be sick.

Kind of Busy

Hey, I'm kind of busy. Working on web pages (including this one), applying for jobs.

My photo gallery is up. Check it out to see what I've been doing/seeing lately. I was going to post a bunch of posts retroactively about everything but instead just look at the pictures and ask me a bunch of questions.

I'll probably have a calendar up on here soon but for now I need to record a couple of events

FEIST
FREE LIVE INSTORE PERFORMANCE at Sonic Boom records on Capitol Hill
THURSDAY, JULY14th at 6pm

THE ARCADE FIRE
AT THE PARAMOUNT
SEPTEMBER 21st
I think that the paramount would be the perfect place to see this band and their antics but me and Jenn might be taking a trip to Cali around this time.

SUMMER CAMP Feat. DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, BUILT TO SPILL, THE DECEMBERISTS, PEDRO THE LION, and VIVA VOCE
LES SCHWAB AMPITHEATRE - BEND, OREGON
AUGUST 6th
What a great lineup! This is about 6 hours from Seattle but we think it would make a great weekend camping trip. We'll see...

If anyone back home is reading this, check out Strike Force and No Birds at Amigos on July 7th. It's a benefit show to bring computers to underprivlidged kids.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Wedding Crashers OST

1. The Sound of Settling - Death Cab for Cutie
2. Love Underground - Robbers on High Street
3. Aside - The Weakerthans
4. (Splash) Turn Twist - Jimmy Eat World
5. Sister Jack - Spoon
6. I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today - Guster
7. In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry
8. This Modern Love - Bloc Party
9. Rock 'N Roll - The Sounds
10. Mr. Ambulance Driver - The Flaming Lips
11. Circus - The Sights
12. Cinnamon - The Long Winters
13. More Adventurous - Rilo Kiley
14. Shout (Matter Music Remix) - Isley Brothers
15. Hava Nagilah - Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson/The Klezmer Juice Band

What the heck? I find this soundtrack to be truly bizarre. Wedding Crashers appears to be the next in the Dodgeball-Old School line of movies for Vince Vaughan and the soundtrack is filled with some damn fine indie rock type bands. Don't get me wrong the movie is probably hilarious but I can't imagine how some of this music will fit. My guess is that, as usual, the songs will be played for 10 seconds quitely beneath a conversation - if at all - in the movie. It's probably just a corporate film-recording machine of commerce trying to make money from a "killer soundtrack" that has nothing to do with the film. Oh well, if this introduces more people to "Cinnamon" by The Long Winters I will be happy.

Note: Green Day's "American Idiot" is in the trailer but not on the soundtrack

Quick Update

Hi,

I'm going out to see Stephen Malkmus at Neumo's right away but I just thought I would drop in and give a quick update.

Today I went to the Fremont Solstice Parade and took tons of pictures. All I have to say for now is Nude Cyclists.

Last night I went to an event at the EMP known as The Iron Composer. It is basically just like the Iron Chef but the contestants must write a song a perform it. The contestants were Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys and Wayne Kramer of The MC5. It was a lot of fun but would have been more fun if I went with a group of people. It was presented by threeimaginarygirls.com who were in attendance. The celebrity judges were Christine Chen of Fox News Christine Chen, some lady from the Seattle PI or Times, and Dean Haglund of The X-Files' Lone Gunmen .

There was tons of girls dressed up in military/guerilla outfits who made sure that you didn't enter without a drink. One picked me out of my chair and harassed me and made me cluck like a chicken. I kid you not. It wasn't fun actually. I'm too stiff, I need to loosen up.

The songs writers had to endure "Turmoils", one of which was the singer of Harvey Danger singing Polka versions of the composers' songs. There was also ass kissing, pillow fights, and candy throwing. It was a blast. Jello Biafra won with a kickass song about never having seen Star Wars.

Upcoming Shows

Hi! Here's a brief overview of some musical events that I will hopefully see.

June 16th - Built To Spill at The Showbox. Wicked!!! Jenn got tickets for us as a present for my birthday. This will be fun and special (BTS is the band that brought us together in the first place), we're going to stand right up in front of the stage which will be a major improvement over squinting at them at Bumbershoot last year.

June 18th - Stephen Malkmus at Neumo's. Jenn is spending the weekend in So. Cal at her grandma's birthday party so I do need something to do solo. I will probably buy a ticket for this today. I don't care too much for his latest two solo albums but seeing the former Pavement frontman in concert is what living in the emerald city is all about. Wow, now I'll have seen nearly all of my idols live.

July 19th - Kimya Dawson & Mount Erie at Chop Suey. Mount Erie is formely known as The Microphones. They're a trip. I'd like to go to this since I missed Kimya last week. I like her solo stuff almost more than I like The Moldy Peaches.

August 10th - The Decemberists & The Violent Femmes at Woodland Park Zoo. Whoa! This would be great. I just found out about this as I'm writing it. It would be nice to see the band right up close but I might just want to hold out for Bumbershoot.

August 20th - Dinosaur Jr at The Showbox. Holy Moley! Yesssssssssss!!!! My favourite band ever has reunited with its original line up. West Coast dates just announced.

August 28th - Neko Case at Woodland Park Zoo. Yay, Jenn will like this :)

September 2nd - 5th - Bumbershoot Festival. Out of the announced bands so far I am really excited to see The Decemberists and Carolyn Mark. Devo will be cool too.

Grits and *Stuff*

Yesterday I walked all the way from the West Seattle Junction to the Admiral district. That's about 20 blocks each way. Just for the exercise and because I had nothing else to do between 6 and 7. I see that Sin City is starting today at the Admiral Theatre. Jenn hasn't seen it so perhaps we'll go sometimes because I could definitely see it again. That is one DVD I'll have to splurge for and get when it comes out. I hear that the DVD will allow you to see all three of the stories in full as separate movies. Apparently all of the scenes from the source graphic novels were shot and the DVD will be like an unabridged version of the movie.

Today, I may try to walk down to the water. I can't believe I've been here two weeks and I still haven't. The problem is that I'll need to consult a map first because even though from out the window it looks like it's only about four blocks not all roads lead there. Most roads lead to private property and/or a cliff. I'll take a picture from the upstairs window so you can all see the wicked view from where I live.

Another great thing is that everything is in walking distance. I've taken the bus downtown a few times but otherwise it has been "hoofing" it all the way. In fact, I tired to start the car the other day and the battery is completely dead. I haven't driven in two weeks. I don't think that I left the lights on or anything so it's a little mysterious and I hope a boost is all that is needed.

Jenn has been working from 10 - 7 every day this week which leaves me a lot of time to myself. She just got a new job and will be starting it in two weeks and I'm very excited for her. I've been reading The Best of American Splendor which Curtis and Adina gave me as a going away present. I'm hooked. I don't think that Harvey Pekar meant for the stories to be collected the way they are because he tends to repeat himself a lot. There is a lot about how he can't afford to retire. Hopefully by the end of the book things will get brighter for him because I'm sure that he's doing alright now due to the movie. The quality of art varies but the book has been very engaging thus far overall.

I rented Pi and Star Wars II: Attack of The Clones. I haven't seen Pi yet and I'm pretty excited about it. Well, as excited as one can be about renting a movie I guess. Star Wars, I rented as a prerequisite to seeing part III.

I read the book and then saw the movie of hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy. It was alright. I kind of wish the book wasn't so fresh in my mind when I watched it. It's the book where the screenplay needed to be padded, not abridged, to make a movie. I found that the movie didn't flow smoothly and a lot of the humour came from the dialogue and was easy to miss because of the accents and because it wasn't quite suited for a movie. Jenn like it very much though. I give it a half assed recommendation if you have nothing else to do.

I haven't seen any live band yet but that may change soon. I missed Rogue Wave, an instore by 50 Foot Wave, and Pinback but on the horizon is Built to Spill on the 17th and Stephen Malkmus on the 18th. Kimya Dawson is playing tonight but I won't be going because I already have plans and I'm sure that she plays here quite often. I definitely will want to catch her next time though.

Tonight we may or may not have a Trailer Park Boys party. What is that you ask? Well I guess we will drink rum and coke and eat chips and chicken fingers while quoting the show. Ha! I'll let you know how it goes. Too bad you can't get Chicken Chips in the US.

p.s. I had grits as a part of my breakfast. I am now unofficially officially an American LOL. There's nothing gritty about grits. It's kind of like cream of wheat but it's made of corn. I'm probably the only person who didn't know this though.

p.p.s. I attended a job fair yesterday but I'll spare you the mundane details.

Hello?

Hi,

I really really really want to make some new posts on here to tell you about my new life in The Puget Sound. I need to post about the drive here, Sasquatch (the festival not the wookie), and what I've been doing. The thing is that I got this snazzy new program called Picassa (from Google, just like Blogger) that manages all of my photos on my computer. It's like iTunes for photos, check it out. Anyway, with it you are supposed to be able to publish photos directly to your blog via an annoying little program called Hello. Hello is garbage. I even deleted the Strike Force page off of my web space to make enough room for the pics but they won't publish properly. This has led to infinite frustration and I have given up for now. I'll take another stab at it tomorrow.

I now have wireless internet. I was using dial-up for the first week or so but I noticed that I can leech off my neighbour if I point my antenna out the window. I rock! I have even downloaded the 2 latest episodes of Trailer Park Boys from Shareaza (there will be 10 episodes this season).

All is well, I'll post soon with some pictures.
