Upcoming shows Update

USSU Events
Amigos :: Live Music

Craziness! Nothing in March quite a bit in April. What is the deal??? LOL

Confirmed
April 7 The Joel Plaskett Emergency with Peter Elkas and Alone and Together Louis' Sure I'll see 'em again.
April 8 Death from Above 1979 with Controller Controller Louis' Not sure if I'd go to this. Some good word of mouth but haven't been to thrilled by the little I've heard.
April 9 Stars w/ Apostle of Hustle and Montag Amigos I just saw Stars and I sitll haven't listened to their new album but Apostle of Hustle is the guys from Broken Social Scene who sings "Looks Just Like The Sun" and it's Cuban influence prog indie and excellent.
April 14 Greg MacPherson Amigos I should give this guy a listen. He's buddies with The Weakerthans and plays music in the vein of Springsteen or the Clash.
April 15 Hot Hot Heat w/ the Futureheads and Louis XIV Louis' - HHH stink. I've been hearing good things about The Futureheads though. I saw them on Conan and they were okay but I'm not creaming my shorts over them. Sort of like a mody Clash. Might go if the price is right and Mike and Dean are going.
April 20 the Weakerthans with the Constantines Louis' Bass player (and Regina boy) John Sutton has left the band and instead of just replacing him they have become a 6 piece. I don't know what they added (pedal steel? female vocals?) but it must be good. I hope there's some new songs too. I seriously must listen to the Constantines. I heard they like audience participation.
April 25 Blue Rodeo Centennial Auditorium This is obviously too expensive to attend but did I tell you how awesome they were and how much fun I had sneaking into their performance at the Briar last year. Don't knock 'em til you tried it. Did you know there's a duet with Jeff Tweedy on what's his bucket's solo album. I must remember to download that.
May 9 Magnolia Electric Co. Amigos Formerly known as Songs:Ohia. Apparently like Neil Young or My Morning Jacket. I must listen.
June 3 Caribou with Junior Boys and The Russian Futurists Amigos Formerly Manitoba. Saw them last year. Hopefully I will be in Seattle when this is on.

tidbits
Queens of the Stone Age may or may not still be coming on April 9th. I hear the promotor screwed it up. They may be in Regina instead or here or not at all.

The Arcade Fire rumours abound. Unfortunately I've heard that they be coming the same night as The Weakerthans/Constantines show (my birthday/420). Which leaves me in a catch 22. I will be seeing the Arcade Fire at Sasquatch but seeing them in an intimate setting like Amigos rather than at an Ampitheatre would make all the difference. I guess I'd just have to go to both shows. But who knows, they probably aren't even coming. If you missed their Conan appearance watch it here http://amandaudoff.typepad.com/arcadefire%20-%20conan.avi.

Feel Good Pic of The Week

I think what mev was trying to say is that that picture makes you nostalgic for a time that actually never really happened but only exists when you reconstruct your memories of youth intermingled with a saved by the bell90210 ideal vision.

Upcoming Shows 2K5

Remember when I used to see a lot of bands. What happened. Well basically there hasn't been any good bands come through town. It seems to be changing now. Here's some upcoming concerts in Saskatoon

The Strummers/Fury & The Mouse - I don't know where. The Strummers are Shakey Wilson's Clash cover band. I'm planning on leaving town this weekend so I won't be there (wherever there is, Shakey said to check Broadway for posters). I really need to give Shakey the recording of his show I made at The Unitarian Centre. Fury & The Mouse are pretty good too. There's another band as well but I didn't recognize or remember the name

Strike Force - Feb 11th - Amigos - I'm going to plug Jeff's band here. Apparently they are playing at Amigos on Friday Feb 11th and some ska band is playing too. I haven't seen it on the amigos site yet but I assume it's true. I won't be there because that is the day I leave for Seattle but that's okay because Jeff missed when Asterid played ;) Anyway, Jeff's my friend and they rock so check this out. Oh yeah and they might have an EP for sale - They were just in the studio with James R of The Pinch/Junto

Joel Plaskett - April 7th - Have I seen Joel too many times already. No, not really. I'd gladly go again due to the fun I had at the last two shows. The man definitely love to tour and he definetly like to to play at Amigos. Will he be playing Amigos again? I don't know he opened for The Hip recently so maybe he's too big time now. UPDATE: LOUIS'

Death From Above 1979 w Controller Controller - April 8 - I have heard nothing but good things about this bass and drums garage freakout duo but the little I've heard hasn't done much for me.

Queens of The Stone Age - April 9th - The Odeon - I could certainly be convinced to attend this. Yup.

Hot Hot Heat - April 15th - ah Hot Hot Heat. I think they stink. I also may be seeing them in Seattle. I enjoyed the last concert because of The Unicorns and Metric so my attendance to this depends on the opening acts and the odd chance that their new album won't lick balls.

Greg MacPherson - April 15th - Amigos - I haven't heard much by this guy but he's on Winnipeg lefty label G7 and buddies with The Weakerthans and he rocks it like Springsteen and this time I should catch it.

The Weakerthans/The Constantine - April 20th - That's my birthday (for reals!). Sweet! As you may know The Weakerthans are among my favourites (and I've only heard goodness about them Constantines too). The bassist quit recently and now they are a 6 piece so I bet they have a wicked show now with pedal steel and backup vocals and stuffs. Life is sweet. Let's hope for new songs.

The Arcade Fire - Amigos - I have heard that the most acclaimed band of 2004, Montreal's The Arcade Fire, will be visiting Amigos is April sometime. Their album is pretty good. I'm not in love with it but it's kind of one you have to emerge yourself in - which I'm bad at. They're on Conan tonight.

Magnolia Electric Co. - May 9th - Amigos - Formerly know as Songs:Ohia Honestly I've never heard them but I see their albums and 7 inches all over the place. I believe they are Young-esque alt-country similar to My Morning Jacket or Palace Music. Therefore I will listen to their music in the next little while and either be underwhelmed or intoxicated.

Tortoise w Four Tet Some time in May I believe. This is part of the Exclaim! Tour I think (last year was the wicked show with Broken Social Scene, The Stills, and Raising The Fawn), but what the hell, these aren't Canadian bands. Tortoise are post-rock geeks and I believe instrumental. Maybe kind of like Mogwai. David Pajo is with them and he was in Slint and Zwan. I should have my indie fan badge revoked. UPDATE: THE Exclaim tour will be April 9th at AMigos with Stars, Apostle of Hustle, and (someone else)

The Constantines And The Weakerthans Rolling From Coast To Coast

Sweet tour! a wicked show on my birthday!
