Remember when I used to see a lot of bands. What happened. Well basically there hasn't been any good bands come through town. It seems to be changing now. Here's some upcoming concerts in Saskatoon
The Strummers/Fury & The Mouse - I don't know where. The Strummers are Shakey Wilson's Clash cover band. I'm planning on leaving town this weekend so I won't be there (wherever there is, Shakey said to check Broadway for posters). I really need to give Shakey the recording of his show I made at The Unitarian Centre. Fury & The Mouse are pretty good too. There's another band as well but I didn't recognize or remember the name
Strike Force - Feb 11th - Amigos - I'm going to plug Jeff's band here. Apparently they are playing at Amigos on Friday Feb 11th and some ska band is playing too. I haven't seen it on the amigos site yet but I assume it's true. I won't be there because that is the day I leave for Seattle but that's okay because Jeff missed when Asterid played ;) Anyway, Jeff's my friend and they rock so check this out. Oh yeah and they might have an EP for sale - They were just in the studio with James R of The Pinch/Junto
Joel Plaskett - April 7th - Have I seen Joel too many times already. No, not really. I'd gladly go again due to the fun I had at the last two shows. The man definitely love to tour and he definetly like to to play at Amigos. Will he be playing Amigos again? I don't know he opened for The Hip recently so maybe he's too big time now. UPDATE: LOUIS'
Death From Above 1979 w Controller Controller - April 8 - I have heard nothing but good things about this bass and drums garage freakout duo but the little I've heard hasn't done much for me.
Queens of The Stone Age - April 9th - The Odeon - I could certainly be convinced to attend this. Yup.
Hot Hot Heat - April 15th - ah Hot Hot Heat. I think they stink. I also may be seeing them in Seattle. I enjoyed the last concert because of The Unicorns and Metric so my attendance to this depends on the opening acts and the odd chance that their new album won't lick balls.
Greg MacPherson - April 15th - Amigos - I haven't heard much by this guy but he's on Winnipeg lefty label G7 and buddies with The Weakerthans and he rocks it like Springsteen and this time I should catch it.
The Weakerthans/The Constantine - April 20th - That's my birthday (for reals!). Sweet! As you may know The Weakerthans are among my favourites (and I've only heard goodness about them Constantines too). The bassist quit recently and now they are a 6 piece so I bet they have a wicked show now with pedal steel and backup vocals and stuffs. Life is sweet. Let's hope for new songs.
The Arcade Fire - Amigos - I have heard that the most acclaimed band of 2004, Montreal's The Arcade Fire, will be visiting Amigos is April sometime. Their album is pretty good. I'm not in love with it but it's kind of one you have to emerge yourself in - which I'm bad at. They're on Conan tonight.
Magnolia Electric Co. - May 9th - Amigos - Formerly know as Songs:Ohia Honestly I've never heard them but I see their albums and 7 inches all over the place. I believe they are Young-esque alt-country similar to My Morning Jacket or Palace Music. Therefore I will listen to their music in the next little while and either be underwhelmed or intoxicated.
Tortoise w Four Tet Some time in May I believe. This is part of the Exclaim! Tour I think (last year was the wicked show with Broken Social Scene, The Stills, and Raising The Fawn), but what the hell, these aren't Canadian bands. Tortoise are post-rock geeks and I believe instrumental. Maybe kind of like Mogwai. David Pajo is with them and he was in Slint and Zwan. I should have my indie fan badge revoked. UPDATE: THE Exclaim tour will be April 9th at AMigos with Stars, Apostle of Hustle, and (someone else)
