Last night I went to The Felt Birds Fashion Show at The Unitarian Centre. Performing was Shakey Wilson, No Birds, and Cody Dyck (of Parades Against Parades).
No Birds were really good again (this was my third time seeing them) there set was kind of sleepy until "Heavy Metal will Never Die" kicked in and the rest of it had heads bobbing to the beat. Shakey played 8mm films on the door during their set.
Shakey was "wicked"! His brother Shane accompanied him on bass and the percussionist was excellent. I made a recording of his performance to send to Jenn and it sounds great. He played covers of Lucinda Williams, Wilco, The Clash, The Silver Jews, The Flaming Lips, and others. As well as a fantastic song about the Co-op. Turns out that "Wives of Farmers" is a Grandaddy song but Shakey will always have the definite version in my mind and in those of the audience. He played a film of the Great Lakes during his set.
--I took some pictures of Shakey playing that I will insert here soon--
Shakey is a funny, sweet guy and you can hear his radio show,
Tin Cans & Twine, on CFCR every Tuesday at 3pm.
